BYOB: Bring Your Own Bracelets

As that old song goes, two’s a party, but three’s a crowd, however in the world of arm accessories the part really is just getting started at four. Not quite sure how you can stack up to the bracelet trend?

If you’re late to the Arm Party there’s no need to wait for your formal invitation. I’ve put together a starter kit of bracelets for you to check out over at The Hip + Urban Girl’s Guide. Arms up!

Mix n’ Match Like a Genius

It’s T-minus one week until Christmas Eve, meaning the holiday party circuit is in full force. Between gifts, menu preparations and last-minute decorations you probably don’t have much time to give your outfit-clothing coordination too much thought.

L'Oreal App

If you’re not sure which shade of lipstick goes best with that new holiday frock, may we suggest downloading the free L’Oreal Colour Genius app from iTunes.  I discovered it a few weeks ago at the L’Oreal Spring 2013 preview event in Toronto and have been playing around with it ever since.

See how it can help you save time and keep stylish in the review I put together here on the Hip + Urban Girl’s Guide, or let the L’Oreal beauties tell you all about it themselves.

Spa-ahhh Time

Sometimes you just need to unplug, log off and be pampered for 90 blissful minutes.  When it’s time I suggest heading over to Sweetgrass Spa in Toronto to see Lourdes for their signature 90-Minute Treatment Facial that combines a customized facial with a heavenly full-body massage.  Definitely my choice for a decadent way to combine the best facial and massage features into one indulgent service. Read more about my Sweetgrass experience on The Hip + Urban Girl’s Guide.

Feeling the Burn at the Barre: BarreWorks Toronto

I’ve been going to the bar a lot lately. I have more energy, I feel stronger and leaner and I think I’ve even lost a few pounds!

I should mention this isn’t your typical bar – in fact it’s a barre not a bar. BarreWorks Toronto to be exact. It’s the newest ballet-inspired fitness studio on Queen West, and I tried their 60-minute Mixed Level class for the Hip & Urban Girl’s Activity a Week column along with Lisa, HUG’s EiC. Try it out for yourself and you’ll feel a burn similar to the one experienced after one too many shots of tequila – except at this barre the burning sensation will make its way to your thighs and linger for days.

Beauty Rave: The Clarisonic Mia2

I know we are only midway into February, but I’m confident that the Clarisonic Mia2 is my best beauty investment of the year. Let me explain. For the last few months I’d been hearing rave reviews about the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System from some of my favourite beauty bloggers and magazines. Made from the same people who brought us the Sonicare Toothbrush, this thing is basically deemed to be a giant electric toothbrush to remove dirt and makeup from your face. I finally became a proud Clarisonic owner on my last trip to the United States (The Mia2 that I purchased is not yet available in Canada, but the other models are) and haven’t looked back. You can read more about how it works and what I think about it here.

All-Natural and All-Canadian: Consonant Skincare

Beauty brand Consonant Skincare recently opened its flagship store in Toronto. It’s 100% Canadian and 100% natural soaps, moisturizers and lotions. I stopped by the shop on behalf of Hipurbangirls.com to learn more about the brand created by Bill Baker, and try some organic skincare products for the first time. Verdict: Works just as well as the mainstream chemical-laden products you’re used to, minus all the irritating and potentially dangerous properties. And the packaging is super cute (huge bonus). Find out more about the store and the brand here.

Presents and Cocktails

What’s a Christmas party without perfectly wrapped presents under the tree, and what’s the fun in opening said gifts if not accompanied by a festive cocktail? These are the injustices that will haunt us throughout the holidays….

But anyways, you’re probably running out of unique ways to wrap presents for your family, friends and co-workers, and they’re probably sick of collecting those gift bags from the dollar store. Solution: follow some advice from gift-wrapper extraordinaire Corinna vanGerwen for gifts that will look almost too good to be opened.

And to make sure no one goes thirsty as they unwrap their beautiful packages, be sure to keep the ingredients ready to make these festive holiday beverages which, perfectly enough, are just as pretty looking as those gifts you’ll have. Aren’t you just the perfect hostess. Happy Holidays!

Stylin’ for the Fall

Shopping for chilly weather anchor pieces? May I suggest:

1. A versatile pair of booties (Check out some great finds  here)

2. Wrapping yourself in fur (faux or vrai options here)

The Travel Diaries: Exploring Barcelona and Paris

As I write this I am the holder of an expired passport and more than two months away until I can take anymore vacation time. My travel options are looking bleak for the near future but luckily the memories from my European adventure this past summer are fresh enough to get me through the weeks ahead.

In July I finally took my long awaited university graduation trip to Europe and headed to Barcelona and Paris with a friend. It was my first time in Barcelona and my second in Paris, but definitely not my last in either place.

Coming across unique settings for a photo op is one of my favourite parts of traveling.

Read about my day trip to Versailles here and my recommendations for what to see and eat and where to stay in Barcelona here on hipurbangirls.com.

Fall Finishing Touches

The Man Repeller, Leandra Medine (middle), knows how to work the Collar Neckalce

There’s always that one piece that can make or break your outfit, or turn it from drab to fab, and nine times out of ten it’s an accessory. A well-picked bag or a statement necklace can quickly update your favourite pieces this fall. May I suggest an ever so darling mini handbag for day or night, and some serious neck adornment to enhance your tees, dresses, and blouses as seen on Style Nine to Five.

A small bag means no room for all that unnecessary junk that floats around your purse
