This year the UWO j-school program decided to spice things up and experiment with a multiplatform journalism project. The purpose was to give us more practice covering current events and gathering news on a deadline in more than one medium. Our instructors divided us into groups of five and assigned us to cover a “beat” in the community: money, education, politics, arts & culture, sports, and justice. I was part of the money group that set out to cover financial and business news for the day. We had 24 hours to use audio, video, text, and photos to tell our stories.
In the end my group produced four stories: A print piece about a London company named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies, another print piece about the new mortgage rules, a video about a London company finding employment for seniors, and a radio interview about financial advice for young adults.
